State of Louisiana Department of Insurance Requirements
  • Producers licensed for one or more lines of life, health and accident, property, casualty or personal lines, required to take 24 hours, including 3 hours in ethics.
  • Those licensed in Life/Health/Accident must complete 24 hours of LHA courses including 3 hours Ethics every 2 years. Courses must be completed by end of producers birth month every 2 years (even numbered).
  • Those licensed in Property & Casualty must complete 24 hours of P/C courses including 3 hours Ethics and 3 hours of flood education (which we don't offer) are needed. credits must be completed by end of producers birth month every 2 years (odd numbered).
  • Dual licensees must complete 24 hours including 3 hours in Ethics and 3 hours in flood (we don't offer flood hours for now)
  • Producers licensed for line of title must complete 12 hours
  • Effective with renewals of 2015, producers licensed for title must include 2 hours on the topic of "consumer financial protection" as part of the 12 hour requirement (we don't carry this new course, at this time)
  • ALL HOURS MAY BE COMPLETED BY SELF-STUDY.
  • Exams are non-monitored.
  • Life/Health and/or Property/Casualty licensees can carry over up to 10 hours to the next renewal cycle. There is NO carryover allowance for Adjusters. Courses carried forward will count as a duplicate if completed again in the current renewal cycle.
  • Course provider reports course completion. Roster reporting is done once a week on Wednesdays.
  • Failure to comply with c.e. requirement results in a $50 late fee. Licensees have a 5 year grace period to reinstate their license.
  • Bail Bond Producers are required to take Specific "Bail Bond Course Subject materials" (We do not carry these)
  • Continuing education is only required for resident insurance producers and adjusters. This includes insurance adjusters that have designated Louisiana as their "home state" for the purpose of licensing.
  • Reminder: A course may not be taken for credit more than once within the 2-year renewal period. In other words, courses are repeatable as long as these are taken after 2 years and hours from the previous cycle have not carried forward to the current cycle.
