State of Illinois Department of Insurance Requirements |
- 24 CE hours, including 3 hours in ethics every 2 years.
- The 3 hours ethics study must be completed in classroom (IL-Requirement)
- 21 hours of continuing education can either be classroom or correspondence (Self-Study).
- Licensees must complete credits by end of agents birth month every two years. The continuing education requirement for each continuing education biennium, must be completed the last day of your birth month, odd or even numbered years, depending on the year you were born.
- Exams are non-monitored. Illinois does not require a proctor during a course examination. Our self-study course exams are open book. Passing Score is 70% or better.
- Students should read the course book content prior to taking the open-book final exam.
- An excess of 12 credit hours may be carried forward to the next renewal period.
- Courses are repeatable every 2 years. The same courses can be repeated in a different compliance period.
- Reporting the course completed hours: processed weekly on Wednesdays, submitted electronically to State-Based Systems (SBS)
- Agents must have their CE credit hours posted at least 10 business days prior to the expiration date, and prior to applying to renew their insurance license(s). As providers we have up to 10 days to report your CE completions, so plan accordingly to avoid a lapse in licensure or paying a penalty.
- Licensees are responsible in filing their renewal; the electronic license renewal is available 90-days prior to the expiration date of license term. If the current date exceeds the expiration date, the agent will be required to pay a penalty fee to the IL-Dept of Insurance.
